A bit of history:
Baluster (wild pomegranate flower) in architecture – low figured columns in the form of columns (sometimes with carved decor), supporting railings of balconies, staircases, are made of wood, stone, metal, marble, etc. They can also look in the same plane.
The most ancient specimen of the image of balusters was found on bas-reliefs in Assyria. For decorating facades, as well as parks, balusters began to be used in the early Renaissance. The baluster, in its modern form, was proposed by the architect Giuliano da Sangallo, who decorated the stairs of the Medici palace with it. Balusters have become popular only since the 16th century thanks to Michelangelo.
Balusters perform a protective function, preventing the possibility of falling from the stairs. On a flight of stairs, the balusters are set one or two per each step or on the bowstring of the stairs one or two per each step of the ascent. At the horizontal point of the balustrade, the distance between the centers of the balusters should be within 15 – 20 cm.
